Ensuring a Successful and Compliant Hunt

Preparing for the hunt itself involves careful consideration of firearms, regulations, and the eventual handling of your trophies. Infinite Safaris is dedicated to guiding you through these critical steps, ensuring your safari is not only thrilling but also fully compliant with international and local laws.

Firearms & Ammunition Regulations

Strict international and local regulations govern the temporary import of firearms and ammunition into African hunting destinations.

  • General Limits: While specific limits vary by country, generally hunters are permitted to bring 1-3 firearms (e.g., a minimum of one high-powered rifle for large game and another for plains game).
  • Ammunition: Typically, you are permitted to bring a maximum of 80-100 rounds of ammunition per firearm.
  • Packing: All firearms must be packed in a lockable, hard-sided case. Ammunition must be stored separately in a secure container within your checked luggage.
  • Prohibited Items: Automatic firearms, handguns (for hunting purposes), and certain calibers may be prohibited.
  • Verification: It is essential to confirm the exact and latest regulations for your specific destination country (South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana) with Infinite Safaris well in advance of your travel.

Rifle Import Permit Assistance

Importing firearms into any country requires specific documentation and permits, which can be a complex process. Infinite Safaris provides comprehensive assistance to simplify this for you.

  • Pre-issued Permits (South Africa): For safaris originating in South Africa, we can assist with obtaining pre-issued firearm import permits (SAPS Form 520) to ensure a smooth entry at the airport.
  • Required Documents: You will typically need to provide copies of your passport, an invitation letter from Infinite Safaris, a copy of your firearm license/proof of ownership from your home country, and a completed US Customs Form 4457 (for US citizens) or equivalent.
  • Timely Submission: Please submit all required documents to us well in advance of your safari, as processing times can vary.

Trophy Care & Shipping

The careful handling and eventual shipment of your trophies are crucial aspects of your safari experience.

Field Preparation

Our professional hunters and camp staff are expertly trained in the initial field preparation of your trophies, including skinning and salting, to ensure their preservation.

Dip & Pack Services

After your hunt, trophies are typically sent to a reputable, registered taxidermist for "dip and pack" services. This involves proper cleaning, sterilization, and preparation for export.

Export Permits

All trophies require official export permits from the relevant conservation authorities in the hunting country before they can be shipped.

Shipping Coordination

Infinite Safaris will coordinate with the taxidermist and a trusted shipping agent to arrange the safe and legal transport of your trophies to your home country or to a taxidermist of your choice.

Timeline

Please note that the entire process from hunt to arrival of trophies can take several months (typically 6-12 months, sometimes longer) due to processing, drying, and shipping logistics.
